Recollections: the Air War Part 9-
" UnForgettable "

Hi Ted:

The more I think about this incident the harder it is for me to believe it. One day I was in the barracks about mid-day, which was very unusual.

Either I was sick or it was bad weather and all missions were scrubbed. In any case, very seldom was I in the barracks during the day. I was laying in my rack, probably smoking, and listening to the radio my brother had sent me shortly before.

I was tuned to the Armed Forces Radio Service, listening to all the nice music, when the disc jockey came on and announced that he had a request to play "Unforgettable" by Nat Cole for Sgt. Don Paul, somewhere in Korea, from Florence Budziak (destined to be my bride). I almost fell out of my bunk!!

The odds of me hearing that request have got to be astronomical, since normally all my waking hours were spent down on the flight line. To this day that is OUR song.

Don.
